A shower head provides an even flow of water and makes for a pleasurable bathing experience. However, irregular maintenance can affect the performance of this bathroom apparatus, with mineral deposits and bacteria build-up being the most concerning issues. So, if you're looking for a budget-friendly and easy way to clean your shower head properly, look no further than antibacterial denture tablets.

Though denture tablets are primarily meant for whitening and brightening dentures, retainers, and other orthodontic appliances, their ingredients, such as potassium persulfate, sodium sulfate, sodium bicarbonate, sodium carbonate, sodium perborate, and pentasodium triphosphate, match the ones found in laundry and household cleaners. This makes them the ideal product for brightening dull fabrics, cleaning shower heads, and rinsing coffee pots. Besides, they're readily available, and this shower head cleansing hack is not at all taxing on the pocket. You can buy an 84-tablet pack of Equate antibacterial denture cleanser tablets at Walmart for less than $4.

To clean your shower head without removing it, pour a few cups of warm water into a sturdy plastic Ziplock or food storage bag. Now, add one to two denture tablets in it. Follow this up by tying the bag over the shower head until completely submerged, using an elastic tie or rubber band to keep the bag in place. Once you're done, let the head soak overnight, or at least a couple of hours, to effectively kill any bacteria, loosen the hardened mineral deposits, and remove unsightly stains. After you remove the bag, use a clean brush or sponge to remove the residual debris.

Alternatively, you can fill a bowl or container with warm water, drop in four tablets, and use a toothbrush soaked in the solution to scrub all mineral deposits from your shower head. Remember, while this process might not require you to leave the shower head alone for a few hours, you'll have to keep scrubbing till it's as good as new. Once you're satisfied, wash away any remaining cleaning solution on the shower head with warm water.

If you're short on time, a faster method is to remove your shower head and soak it in 2 cups of hot water containing two effervescent denture tablets for 20 minutes, before rubbing it clean with a soft brush.
